Consumer IoT devices haven't been doing well, mostly because people don't find many of them actually improve their daily lives. Apple won't build such a device, they don't need to. Their devices are doing this job. So brand mistrust aside, these type of devices don't really "solve for" anything. My extensive research in human/technology interplay backs this up.
