Digital Nomads: Modern Hunter-Gatherers?
From Spears to Smartphones: Why Your Ancestors Would Recognize Today’s WiFi Warriors.
They were on the hunt again. The resources weren’t the same here anymore. They all wanted fresh ground. Some said the resources were better at another place. More opportunity was there and others in nearby tribes had suggested that place too. They’d all learned to travel a little lighter so they could move t new places faster. They were skilled hunters. They’re main weapon? laptops and smartphones. They are the modern hunter-gatherers.
They’re just like our ancient ancestors of 50,000 years ago, following an ancient imperative that most of humanity has long forgotten: when resources run thin in one place, we packed up and moved to where the hunting was better.
The resources they’re chasing today may not be berries and small animals, but the effects are similar. Today they’re chasing extended working visas for digital nomads, better internet access, a supply of cheap short-term housing, new culinary experiences.
While it may not immediately seem obvious, the digital nomads of today may be playing a vital role in cultural transmission and be part of a unique social group that can bring valuable human skills to the world in business and other sectors.
