Very good surface analysis. It goes much deeper though. And that is culture. Secondarily is stakeholder bias. Whatever consumer research methodology they used was likely to confirm their own views of the product. Culturally, they really misunderstand how consumers adopt technologies like this. So yeah, no surprise this flopped.
