Well argued! I think this format might apply to the softer sciences as well. In my anthropology work, specifically netnographic & ethnographic work, client output favours the essay format. Visualisations and the design of the product factor in significantly. Sometimes it seems, academic papers are designed more for compliance and less for ideation.
