Well reasoned Nir. We also still don't really know what consciousness is, or intelligence really. Humans have a long history of anthropomorphizing technology. Perhaps with AI, we see an "other" that we might talk to. Part of the reason we seek aliens is because we are a social species and we just someone else to talk with.
