What’s Really Behind The Drone Hysteria?
A look at what’s really going on with the drone hysteria, a form of social panic that we’ve seen before and why it’s happening.
The city of Ottawa ordered a blackout. The federal government enacted a state of emergency. The American government started sharing intelligence with the Canadians. Sentries and spotters were placed around parliament. The attack was, supposedly, imminent. Residents in upstate New York and New Jersey called in sightings in the night sky. The attack, apparently, was bombers flying in from a secret base run by German Americans. It was 1915. No such attack happened. But the social panic was real.
Over the past month mass hysteria has once again formed over the skies of North Eastern America, mostly New Jersey. Swarms of drones of varying sizes. Some proclaiming them UAPs or UFOs, others that they’re Iranian or Chinese coming from boats out to sea. Some have suggested they’re government drones searching for a lost nuclear weapon. So why such hysteria and panic?
In our hunter-gatherer phase our local worldview was unstable; lots of things wanted to eat us. But our global worldview was stable. This has switched today. Our local worldview is stable and our global worldview is unstable; geopolitics, conflicts, terrorism.
