Yes, it certainly can seem rather disconnected. But throughout history, as we've added new communications technologies (writing, papyrus, paper, printing press etc.) conflict has always followed. The Catholic church once decried the printing press would lead to the collapse of civilization...the internet is a huge change in sociocutural dynamics. It will get wierder before it gets better.
